Johnson Protective Window Films

Polymeric safety & security films can be found anywhere where glass breakage poses a threat – homes, commercial buildings, retail stores, government buildings and even cars. They are available in a variety of thickness sizes depending on the level of protection needed, and you can choose either a clear film or a shaded version if you are looking for added solar protection.

Why get protective window films? Because, broken glass and flying shards can cause severe injuries and even death to children, family members, pets, employees, etc.. Single, double and triple layer films provide effective protection from hazards ranging from accidents to bomb blasts. The durable polymer film construction and tough adhesive of our film bonds to your glass, creating a functional “safety net” that holds glass in place at impact.

We also have films which includes Johnson’s industry-leading, scratch resistant coating that helps to prevent ugly scratches. They are also easily cleaned with everyday household window cleaning products. Our films can also easily be removed and replaced, which provides store managers with an inexpensive, time-efficient solution versus replacing a damaged piece of glass or surface. It’s also optically clear and is undetectable to the naked eye.

Our films can also be applied to your window in less than 15 minutes with minimal disruption to your daily life. There will be no removal of glass nor rework or repaint after installation. Our films are also cheaper than actually replacing the broken glass and in extreme cases, the entire frame as well. Some of our films also have solar energy reduction layers that can pay for themselves with energy savings.

Further benefits of protective window films:

Natural Hazard Protection: During hurricanes and tornadoes, safety research indicates that security film can save lives and reduce property damage by preventing flying objects from penetrating windows. Additionally, earthquake studies confirm that home or office structures that include security film can substantially reduce the hazard of flying and shattered glass, a major source of injury.

Accidental Damage Protection: A variety of glass window accidents occur in the home every year; a stray baseball hits an unintended target, a lawnmower propels a rock, a toddler falls against a bay window. The installation of the proper safety film can keep these minor accidents from becoming a medical emergency.

Human Threat Protection: Unfortunately, crime and vandalism are a part of our everyday life. Personal safety and property are exposed to the expanding levels of risk associated with “smash and grab” robberies and other more dangerous illegal acts. Our films provide a much-needed deterrent to vandals and thieves. Even after being smashed, our film will help hold glass panes in place and prevent easy entry.

Johnson Residential/Commercial Window Films

For over 30 years, Johnson Window Films has been a trusted name in the window film business. They have manufactured a comprehensive line of residential and commercial films.

Because they work so closely with independent dealers, they've been able to garner unique insights that have led to better design of window film products to address heat load, glare, and fading. This enables Johnson Window Films to constantly provide the highest level of film quality to dealers.

There are a variety of Johnson window film shades to choose from including colors to match the external look of your home or commercial building. Some films provide better heat reduction while others create a more private environment.

As more and more people are using solar control films as part of their total window treatment, new concerns arise around interior light reflection during the evening time affecting normal outside views. Day and nighttime privacy is also an issue as homeowners are uneasy about the ability to look inside a window better than looking out. A solution is one of our films which offers optical clarity while minimizing the harsh reflectivity problems found in other films today.

We also have solar films which are dual-reflective and they deliver the highest heat rejection available. This type of window film is popular among architects and designers because its dual reflectivity allows for more optimal day and nighttime views while still providing substantial solar protection

Adding color to a window can really make a difference in the overall aesthetic look of a commercial building or home. Owners and managers of hotels, storefronts and high-rise buildings can literally alter the look of the structures with the simple application of one of our window films.

Our films also provide the perfect solution for blocking excessive solar radiation in residential homes or commercial buildings while still delivering optical clarity and sophisticated good looks.

The window film world today is not limited to traditional solar control films. Sometimes a window will need a special application film to address a specific issue or concern. Fortunately, we offer a range of window films specially suited for those concerns:

UV Clear – A clear, invisible film blocking 99% of harmful UV rays. Great for storefronts looking to reduce interior fading and homeowners that don’t want the look of window film but demand UV protection.

White Frost – A semi-transparent film designed for windows where sunlight is desired, but total day and night privacy is needed. Works well on large bathroom windows, half-moon windows, and internal office & conference windows.

Whiteout & Blackout Films – Opaque white & black films developed to create total privacy. Excellent for eliminating any viewing inside a window where valuable items are kept, e.g. storage buildings, glass cabinets, countertops.

Product benefits

High heat rejection – helps to lower energy costs and provides a more comfortable household/office experience

Unique Cool Window Film

What is window film?

Window Film is a transparent plastic film which is applied to automotive or flatglass windows for one or more of fours purposes: privacy, heat or light rejection, security or graphic design.

How does film reduce fading?

To understand the causes of fading, one must kow a little about the makeup or sunlight.

Sunlight is basically made of 3 elements:
  • Visible light- the part that we 'see'
  • Infra Red - the part which we 'feel' as heat
  • Ultraviolet light - which we neither see nor feel but is the main factor in causing fabrics or furnishings to fade. Ultraviolet absorbers are used to stop UV at the film. The type, amount, and location of the absorbers in the product determine the film's ability to reduce fading. Absorbers that are located in the adhesive only (blocking 95%-98%) instead of the film itself (blocking over 99%) are far less stable and enduring. All of our solar controlproducts absorb more than 99% of the UV rays.
  • Miscellaneous interior artificial lighting, dye anchorage, and humidity

Facts about Fading "As a Rule of Thumb"

Laboratory studies of a large variety of fabrics and woods show significant differences in the color stability of these products. Fabric fading results differ depending on the fiber type, dye, color, stability, and/or pattern techniques. Expensive fabrics are not necessarily guaranteed to have fade protection.

Natural wood finishes are much more stable than stains or finishes that alter the natural color of the wood. Wood may actually darken with prolonged exposure to UV rather than fade to a lighter color. The nature of certain delicate fabrics and dyes will lead to premature fading regardless of the application of any window film or protective treatment.

Why do i need Unique Window Film?

Automotive glasss (except windshields) and ordinary architectural glass found in homes and offices only protect occupants from UVB rays. It has been found that UVA rays have detrimental effects on humans such as premature aging of the skin, cancers ofthe skin and eye disease such as cataracts and age related and macular degeneration. Unique provides 99.9% UVA and UVB protection.

Why would someone need Unique instead of conventional glass tinting?

Many individuals do not like a 'tinted appearance'. They are afraid they will not be able to look out and prefer a clear appearance on their vehicle. Unique at 70% visible light transmission (front windscreen) & 50% visible light transmission (side and rear windscreen) on glass provides a virtually clear appearance in cars.

Does Unique provide the same degree of solar protection as darker tinting films?

No, because Unique has such high light transmission it does not provide the heat and glare reduction of darker (20%,35%,etc.) of glass tinting. However, many of the darker tinting films are only colored films and does not offer any sort of heat rejection.

Will Unique prevent my vehicle interior from fading?

No film product prevents fading entirely. Fading is a chemical reaction to a combination of heat, light and ultraviolet. While Unique will reduce fading and interior damage, no product eliminates fading.

What is the warranty of the film?

We provide a manufacturer's 10 years warranty to the original owner of the vehicle against cracking, peeling and bubbling. The ultraviolet absorbing properties of the film may vchange very slightly obver the lifetime of the film depending on atmospheric conditions. Individuals with medical conditions and UV sensitivity should have their film checked after 7 years by an authorized Unique dealer to ascertain any change, which they feel may be detrimental. The warranty does not cover replacement for UV absorbency changes.

What kind of warranty comes with the film?

We provide a manufacturer's 10 years warranty to replace any defective product for free. If there is a problem, just bring your car and warranty card with an explanation of the manufacturing defect to any Unique dealer from cost to cost and it will be replaced at no charge to you. However, the replacement policy applies to manufacturing defects for which we are responsible.

How should i clean my window after the film is applied?

Windows with film are easily cleaned without damage to their appearance as long as few common-sense guidelines are followed:

1. Use a soft clean cloth, soft paper towel or clean synthetic sponge.

2. Use a soft cloth or squeegee for drying the window

3. Use any normal glass cleaning solution which contains no abrasive materials

Why does Unique cost more than some of the traditional films?

Because it is difficult to make a high light transmission product with such a high level of UV absorbers and still maintain good optical clarity.

Johnson Philosophy

While many companies manufacture window film, Johnson Window Films' corporate philosophy transcends mere dollars and cents when it comes to why we do business. Money alone will not necessarily lead to business success nor employee or customer satisfaction. No, the underlying reason why Johnson Window Films has been successful for the past 30 years is that in its truest form, we supply products that have tangible benefit on people's lives.

There are basically two types of window film - non-reflective or dyed films that primarily absorb solar energy, and reflective or metallized films that absorb as well as reflect solar energy.
